Mulvey researched the representation of women in film, finding cinema and it's audience largely 'masculine' & women controlled by 'The Male Gaze'. Mulvey rejected the idea that men were dominant in society, and did not want a patriarchal society. She proposed that women 'de-gender' themselves of sexuality and femininity in order to bring about the post feminist society.

Normal life and normal school life for the girls and others at the school. Disequilibrium: Main characters friend is killed and everything goes wrong, girls begin to face trouble. Resolution: The Nightmare attacker Freddy Kruger gets burnt Film Review: It was interesting how the antagonist targeted females in their dreams showing how the antagonist in this genre preys on females and their vulnerability, as at night females are less dressed, and females aren't psychically as strong as men. |

Film Review: I believe that the story telling for Insidious 2 was well planned and interesting due to the scenes from the last movie linking well with this sequel which for me was really exciting to watch especially considering the first version ended with a cliff hanger. I rate this movie 8/10. |
World War ZYear of release: 2013
Director: Marc Forster Protagonist: Gerry Lane Antagonist: Zombies Theme: Zombie-Thriller Stock Characters:

Resolution: Gerry becomes aware to the fact zombies don't go after sick people and pairs with Julia at the refugee camp to give people the virus to keep zombies away from them and kill all of the other remaining zombies Film Review: The storyline behind it is smart, and the intelligent modern day, blood thirst zombies seem to go to any means to catch/eat human flesh such as climbing on each other. Also, it differs from the usual zombie film and it's very unique and unpredictable therefore me giving it a 10/10 rating. |

The Texas Chainsaw |
The Purge |
Jeepers Creepers |
Year of release: 1974

Equilibrium: On a road trip to a old family home Disequilibrium: Their friends slowly disappear and then they get chased by the chainsaw Resolution: Escapes the killer by going on a truck Film Review: The film was banned for its violence and gore, however there was hardly any in it and all the action happened late into the film, with all the gore scenes being quick and not actually showing any blood. This was gruesome and could be sickening to people if society was so desensitised. |
Year of release: 2013
Director: James Demonaco Protagonist: Sandin Family (Mother, Father, Daughter, Son Antagonist: Masked Strangers Theme: Thriller Stock characters: Princess, rebellious teen Stock situations: Power cut, double take jump scares Icons: Masks worn by killers, National American Anthem Background & Décor: Wealthy house, bright and well lit until power cut Equilibrium: Sadin family prepare for the purge and locking up the home Disequilibrium: Charlie (son) lets a stranger who is being hunted in Resolution: Neighbours kill strangers Film Review:The Purge is an interesting take on the thriller genre, complete with a twist ending. The purge make use of a lot of stereotypes in the thriller sub-genre, such as the leader of the antagonists being slightly psychotic which is a theme in movies like 'Scream'. This was a interesting film which I believed engaged the audience into thinking of what they themselves will do in dark moments like the "Purge" |
Year of release: 2003
Director: Victor Salva Protagonist: A school basketball team Antagonist: The creeper Theme: Monster Stock characters: Jocks, Cheerleaders Stock situations: Hunting the killer Icons: School jerseys Background & Décor: School bus Equilibrium: Basketball players and cheerleaders returning home on a bus, celebrating Disequilibrium: Bus's tire is popped by shuriken and creeper starts to attack Resolution: Taggart manages to stabilise the creeper Film Review: Jeepers creepers 2 was an alright monster movie, which portrayed the creeper as unstoppable and scary. There was quite a few violent scenes involving the creeper, i did enjoy it, especially the ending where the father gets his revenge. As none of us are really fans of Monster movies finding them a bit unrealistic and preferring films with a sense of more realism, we decided this was one of our worst films though we rate it around 6/10 as it is still good and engaging. |
